Action 3. Mitigation methods and their adaptation to the changing climate conditions

This Action develops methods for reduction of acid loading from AS-soils, taken into account challenges of future climate conditions. The project focuses on regulated subsurface drainage methods, although other methods are also assessed. Partners include MTT Agrifood Finland (coordinator), Åbo Akademi University, University of Helsinki, GTK and SYKE.

Tasks of the Action are

  •  Establishment of demonstration pilot fields
  •  Evaluation and monitoring of the impacts of mitigation methods (effects on runoff quality and quantity, yields and greenhouse gases)
  •  Review of tools available for reduction of acidity loading from AS-soils
  •  Manuals and guides on the use of mitigation methods
