Towards a generic, mechanistic plankton food web model for the northern Baltic Sea (DHYBRIS)

The objective is to construct parsimonious, mechanistic and stoichiometrically explicit food web models for the plankton ecosystem, identify key components and flows, and rigorously quantify a set of parameter values, applicable over seasonal and spatial gradients from N to P limitation in the Baltic Sea. This transparent model framework would greatly facilitate application of complex ecosystem models, which incorporate nutrient dynamics, key system components and dynamics of physical environment, for advising the managerial decisions on protection and restoration of coastal ecosystems.
