An overview of water management in Finland - Study Tour from Tajikistan
The FinWaterWEI II Programme, together with the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE and the Finnish Water Forum, organised a Study Tour for water sector experts and decision-makers from Tajikistan in October 2016. The Study Tour on Effective Management of Water Services and Public-Private Partnerships for Service Delivery was organized at the request of USAID Local Governance Project in Tajikistan.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, inaugurated a safe drinking water project funded through the FinWaterWEI II programme
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon during his recent visit to GBAO on 25-28 June 2016 visited the disaster-stricken village of Ghudara of Rushan district and inaugurated a project focusing on safe drinking water supply. The project is implemented by the Aga Khan Foundation as part of the FinWaterWEI II funded project Enhancing resilience to the negative effects of climate change through improved water management in GBAO, Tajikistan. Training on Human Rights Based Approach to Development in the Water Sector
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland organised a training session on the Human Rights Based Approach to Development to the staff of UN Women in Kyrgyzstan. UN Women is implementing one of the FinWaterWEI II projects (Livelihoods through participation and equal access to water). More information is available here.

KGZ-Water / Issyk Kul and TJK-Water
The two institutional cooperation projects between SYKE and its counterparts in the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan came together when Tajik water quality experts visited their peers in Bishkek in February 2016. Enhancing resilience to the negative effects of climate change through improved water management in Gorno-Badakshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO), Tajikistan
On 4 December 2015, the project held its first Steering Committee meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Nurali Rioev, 1st Deputy Governor of GBAO.
Presentations were held by representatives of agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network.

1st Meeting of the FinWaterWEI II Coordination Group in Tajikistan
The first meeting of the FWW II Coordination Group was held on 3 December 2015 in Dushanbe.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Sulton Rahimzoda, First Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources.
The coordination meeting was convened in order to ensure wider possibilities for synergies and in order to better communicate the FinWaterWEI II Programme as a sum of its parts. The meeting is planned to be held biannually between the FinWaterWEI II projects implemented in Tajikistan.

KGZ-Water / Issyk-Kul
On 6-8 Oct 2015, join monitoring of the Issyk-Kul Lake water quality was carried out. The timing was chosen so the sampling would take place after the busy recreational season at the lake. The joint monitoring was carried out by the State Agency of Environment Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (SAEPF) together with the Issyk-Kul Regional Subdivisions of Department for Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance (DDPSSES) of the Health Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic and a representative of the research team of the Project “Towards sustainable aquaculture and fisheries development in the KR”. The sampling took place with the support of the FinWaterWEI II project “KGZ-Water / Issyk-Kul”.
